WASSCE for School Candidates 2026 – Release of Results

RELEASE OF RESULTS OF THE WEST AFRICAN SENIOR SCHOOL CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION (WASSCE) FOR SCHOOL CANDIDATES, 2026

The Banjul Office of The West African Examinations Council is pleased to announce the release of results of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination for School Candidates, 2026. A total of 20,610 candidates from 170 Senior Secondary Schools registered for the examination. This represents an increase in candidature of 1.79% over last year’s entry figure of 20,248 candidates. Out of the 20,610 candidates who registered for the examination, 7,540 (36.58%) were male, while 13,070 (63.42%) were female.

In the WASSCE for School Candidates, 2026 the Gambian candidates registered in 40 subjects which included English Language, Mathematics, Civic Education and a host of Science, Arts, Commerce, Technical and Vocational Subjects.

One thousand five hundred and fifty-six (1,556) candidates (7.94%) out of 19,605 (95.12%) obtained credit passes in five subjects and above including English Language and Mathematics. On a gender basis, 649 (41.71%) male and 907 (58.29%) female candidates had five credits and above including English Language and Mathematics.

A summary of the performance in terms of the number of credit passes obtained and the percentage of candidates who obtained such number of credit passes is given below.

The summary of the performance of candidates indicated above is based on a complete record of 19,605 (95.12%) out of 20,610 candidates. About 994 incomplete records are being processed which, if completed, may change the statistics of the performance.

The Council wishes to inform the general public that results of 98 candidates from 13 schools who were suspected to have been involved in examination malpractice are withheld until the appropriate committee of the Council meets and decides on the cases.

On behalf of the Chairman and Registrar to Council, the Head of National Office wishes to register the Council’s profound appreciation for the immense support rendered by The Gambia Government through the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE).

In a similar vein, the Council recognises and appreciates the fruitful efforts of other stakeholders, including its esteemed Examiners, Principals of Senior Secondary Schools as well as the Conference of Principals of Senior Secondary Schools (GAMCOP) who immensely contributed to the successful conduct of the examination, and release of the results.
